Why I think These Frugal Living Homesteaders Are A Money Cult
Recently I got carried away with watching some of these Frugal or Money Saving Or Homesteading YouTubers. I was fascinated to see the dysfunction and crazy.
I noticed a few things about these Frugal Living people that makes me think they have become a money cult.
How they have become cults...
You start off with an insecure person, who then goes thru a period of time where she lost (its almost always a SHE) a job and had to live very sparsely and had to live on very little money (FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME) and create meals with pennies.
Either they have no education, or they hate education and talk their kids out of college.

Because of the invention and narcissism of the internet, these women can now start blogs to give Thrifty Living advice. And because there are a lot of poor people in the world, any newbie that pops up spewing advice will get attention, hits and accolades.
This bolsters the insecure "Budding Cult Leaders" ego, and they then write a book.
This gets her attention which further feeds her ego.
The books are filled with recipes from the internet and thrifty tips copied from other thrifty living sites.
By this time they are no longer poor and are swimming in money from all these books, ad revenue and tv and radio appearances.
Soon you notice the hubby stays at home a lot, never goes to his job anymore.
He sets up a dummy "online" job .
They then go on YouTube,
Somewhere along the way they start making soap and selling it.
When people ask them if they live off of YouTube, they tell people they are on Disability for fibromyalgia and/or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
The lady then says, "we live off one income, hubby's!" but hubby's "job" is their YouTube Show!
They lie their asses off about being poor, and they hide the truth about their book sales and Vlog revenue. 20 years into the Thrifty Book and Net game and they have made over 10 million, just in one book sales alone!
Eventually they pull their kids out of school to homeschool them. This attracts new attention from the Fundy community.
They take advantage of this by spewing conspiracies and phoney medical advice. They have poor knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating and cooking habits. They spew dangerous beliefs about gender, science, marriage and families.
After a few generations their fans/cult members become paranoid, science hating fundies and start prepping.
How is this a CULT?
Simple.
Charismatic leader
Dictates rules one must live by*
Cult leader is worshipped by her fans
Cult leader is rich and living high on the hog while the poor fans are supporting her.
The entire family is supported by the cult followers.
* The cult leaders rules appear to be:
Education and after school activities are bad
Science is bad
We will shun you if you are anything other than Christian or Jewish.
Dont question me
Do everything I tell you to do.
So they isolate you, dictate to you, and take all your money and you have to worship them...
